We Want You to Be the Next Homesteader of the Year
Calling all homesteaders (in other words, a sizeable chunk of the HOMEGROWN flock): We dig you. We’re motivated by your creative ideas and ingenuity. And we think you deserve a chance to shine.
Here’s one way to get your day (or year!) in the sun: Mother Earth News magazine is hosting its second annual Homesteader of the Year contest and is searching for self-reliant, community-focused households that embody an eco-friendly, do-it-yourself lifestyle. HOMEGROWN folks, now is not the time to be humble. We’ve seen your home-built chicken tractors and reclaimed-wood barns and pantries packed with put-up goodies. We’re in awe of all that you do. And we think MEN will be, too. If you need a little inspiration, or just a kick in the pants, check out this blog post on last year’s finalists.
The fine print: Applicants can be individuals, couples, families, or roommates, and you can nominate friends, kin, and neighbors—yep, even yourself. The winners will be featured in the magazine this fall as part of MEN’s International Homesteading Education Month and will score a prize package that includes tickets to a Mother Earth News Fair and a book collection from Storey Publishing.
But the deadline is March 15, so get cracking! Tell MEN in 250 to 500 words why you or your nominee deserves to be recognized and be sure to include at least three photos of the homesteaders and their homestead.
You can submit your nominations via email, with “Homesteader of the Year Nominee” in the subject line, to Letters@MotherEarthNews.com. Or send them via snail mail to Homesteader of the Year Nominee; MOTHER EARTH NEWS; 1503 SW 42nd St.; Topeka, KS 66609.
Don’t think of it as bragging. You can tell them HOMEGROWN sent you.
